Asia’s free Wifi hotspots put Australia to shame and India is no different. Well, it’s different in that none of them seem to work or something is wrong with my laptop. This coupled with our lack of research due to the wedding and no guide book makes our Adventuring… well adventurous. This time others were using the wi-fi so I had hope. Turned on the laptop, tried to connect… everyone else lost their connection and didn’t regain it. So I slinked away before they attributed it to me.
Kahlia’s plan was good it just didn’t come off. There were no tickets for the morning trains and the tourist reservation office didn’t open till after they left (there are special spots for tourists that can be booked online or in person at the tourist office). After standing in line and watching a huge amount of arguing and corruption taking place for spots on the overcrowded trains at 4am the attendant told me there was nothing he could do to get us a seat. In retrospect I think I may have missed his wink indicating he could for a fee… If only the wi-fi worked!
Having already been taken to a fake booking agent across the road (we were warned and knew not to book there) I was tricked into walking over there again. They try and tell you there aren’t seats for weeks so you better take their more expensive bus or taxi. The third time someone tried I was awake enough to politely decline the walk across the street.
The trains are a fabulous way to travel India and meet locals… just book ahead of time and avoid the local queues. Also avoid the first class trains, the 3 tier sleepers and second class chairs are much more fun.
