Flying into Luang Prabang is an awesome experience. The plane banks hard into a canyon that seems to swallow the plane in rocky embrace before spewing it out over the Mekong and onto the tarmac surrounded by palms and banana trees.
The other interesting thing about flying into Lao is that there is a list of countries posted at immigration with their associated cost for citizens of those countries to enter Laos. The pricing is so arbitrary that I think they held a national poll to determine their favourite and least favourite countries. Then assigned visa fees accordingly. Australians are relatively liked at $30, Canadians are the most hated taxed tourists with a whopping $42 visa fee.
